Letter from Maestro Smith (09/30)
We have accomplished so much this past week — congratulations! As we discussed during rehearsals and at the retreat, the first movement of Tchaikovsky is particularly challenging on many levels. You focused and really worked hard, and the results should be clear to everyone — we have come such a long way in only a month! It’s exciting to hear our potential!
So, now the individual work needs to continue — we worked on those tricky chromatic passages in the first movement, but each player needs to sort out fingerings, etc.
I am very, very inspired by your work ethic and spirit — thanks for your dedication to the music and to each other.
See you Tuesday night — we will once again begin with the first movement, so percussion who do not play that movement can come 60 min late.
Have a great week — MRS
