Letter from Maestro Smith (1/27)
What a great couple of days! As I mentioned to you on Tuesday night, I am so pleased with our amazing work ethic. Both Tuesday night and especially at the retreat, you all showed up and really dug into the essential nitty-gritty work with incredible spirit. This is exactly the commitment we need for everyone to attain our potential as an orchestra — and everyone is contributing in a big way!
We have lots of big projects for the rest of this season, and I am excited to continue down our path together. Keep working individually on those passages which you know need some work. We will keep revisiting the Tchaik, as our complete performance of it is on the horizon. Every time we play it in rehearsal, it gets better and more confident — a great sign!
Please work slowly on Colas — as mentioned, this slow work always pays off with fast tempi…
Have a great week, and I look forward to next Tuesday.
