Letter from Maestro Smith (1/26)

It was great to be back in Orchestra Hall with you on Monday.  Thanks for an excellent rehearsal — we need rehearsals like that one (with focus on lots of details) to get to where we need to be for tour.  Thank you!

Next week, we will start with some Romeo and Juliet, and then Hoedown,  PLEASE NOTE that we will end rehearsal with the Dvorak, so those musicians who do not play Dvorak will be released 45 minutes early.  We will also play the John Williams’ With Malice Toward None.  Please have a look at it before next Monday.

I am very pleased with our overall progress — we are on track to have everything well-prepared for our year-end concerts and tour.  Your investment in individual practice of your GTYCS parts is the only way that we can reach our considerable potential.  Please invest time in your individual practice to keep your GTCYS repertoire in top shape — it takes the commitment of everyone!

I hope you enjoy our time together as much as I do — we have a special group, and it is a joy to be together each Monday night.  See you soon — MRS

Additionally: The deadline to register to be a GTCYS Ambassador is this Friday, January 30. If you are a member of your school band or orchestra program, you are eligible to participate. Questions? Email Dan Mollick at dan@gtcys.org.
