Letter from Kaiser (4/9)
Hello Camerata Vivace!
The Ballet Scene from Meyerbeer’s Opera Robert Le Diable, oil painting, Edgar Degas, 1876
I heard absolutely wonderful things from Jack who has graciously stepped in the last two rehearsals in my absence. As we look ahead to our final few rehearsals, I am excited for us to really put the work in and carve out more musical moments.
Next week are string sectionals and WW/Brass/Percussion combined sectionals. You will be in the split-up groups at the start of our rehearsal time, but after break, we will reconvene in our normal space and do some large-group rehearsing. Please be ready for both of these plans.
GTCYS 10:
Violins:
Violas:
Cellos: Spanish Dance @ 45, work on the bowing and articulations here, we will clean up in rehearsal together, too.
Bass: Spanish Dance @ 45, work on the bowing and articulations here, we will clean up in rehearsal together, too.
WW: Play light light light light at the beginning of Ballet and any moments that feature the woodwind sections.
Brass: Clean and clear articulations are absolutely needed at the beginning of Ballet, keep it up!
Perc:
Everyone:
- Heroic Overture: Rehearsal 8 sounds like we needed to add space in the string accompaniment, great! Please review this at home before next week.
- Ballet: Valse. You simply must work on this slowly on your own in a 3-feel., then speed it up into our 1-feel. Slurs in the strings must be confident and evenly played.
- Lord of the Rings: Ava make sure you work on the violin solo so it’s super confident! All strings: bowings at the end must be synced up, please review!
Looking ahead at rehearsals:
We have very little time left before our final two performances this year. We have:
- Next week ½ sectionals, ½ rehearsal
- One full rehearsal
- ••April 15thConcert featuring: Spanish Dance, Ballet, Chamber Music, Heroic Overture, Lord of the Rings
- Two rehearsals
- Spring Festival featuring Ballet and Mvmt I of Ode to Childhood
It is time to spend extra time on your GTCYS music. Think of your preparation during this time like how you prepare for an audition: consistent and steady practice each day makes all the difference.
I can’t wait to hear you play soon, thank you!
Best wishes,
Kaiser
