Letter from Kaiser (4/30)

Hello Camerata Vivace!

Birch Bark Biting

Birch Bark Biting by Pat Bruderer

Thank you for a wonderful rehearsal back after our Spring Community Concert! Our sights are set ahead towards our Spring Festival performance of Ode to Childhood Mvmt I (Lullaby) and Ballet. There are still several other things to look forward to and prepare for as we get into the final moments of the season!

GTCYS 10:

Tonight we noticed that Ballet worked much better when we isolated sections and really focused on listening to each other for an established pulse.

Woodwinds: In Ballet, continue your work during transition points (leading into the Valse, Rehearsal 1 to 2, the Vivo at the end, etc.) to not slow down. In Ode to Childhood, we will be tuning each of the woodwind parts at the end of the movement next week so please prepare accordingly!

Brass: We made some notes to change dynamics and listen for different parts in both Ballet and Ode to Childhood. Tune any spots we isolated winds/brass tonight and mark in your part your tendencies on different notes (sharp or flat).

Percussion: Thank you for your flexibility in Ode to Childhood and Ballet: great work tonight! Keep up the great work and keep focusing on auditions!

Strings: In Ballet: Reminder for basses, we need a strong pizz. for the quarter notes at the end of the phrase in the 2/2 sections. Strings we will do a reset bow that stops before starting the 8th notes in the second to last measure. Keep watching each other’s bows to match length! In Ode to Childhood, please continue to use a metronome for any 16th note passages and check for tuning along the way, too!

And…. keep working to memorize Jupiter! Test yourself this week and try playing it memorized at a few different tempos, just in case!

And And…. don’t forget to keep preparing your auditions due May 19th!

Summer Camp with GTCYS:

You can use your GTCYS season audition for your summer camp audition! This is a great way to connect with other GTCYS musicians, learn from artistic staff, and keep your skills up over the summer

Parents: If you missed the audition information meeting at the end of rehearsal last week, you can view the information I shared here.

Happy Practicing!

Best wishes,

Kaiser
