Letter from Kaiser (1/9)

Hello Camerata Vivace!
Welcome back to GTCYS for the spring semester! I am so excited about the opportunities ahead of us. As with any transition, please take care to find ways to normalize your routines and create excellence in your musical commitment.

We are going to spend lots of time with Ode to Childhood over the next two months, so make sure you are spending practice time on it, too! Next week, winds, brass, and percussion have separate sectionals, and strings are with me. Here is what I’d like you to prepare and work on between now and then:
  • Strings: Spanish Dance No. 3 opening melodic lines. Please listen to the recording to get an idea of the phrase and style. Quarter note = 152 for our arrangement.
  • Strings Again: Ode to Childhood Mvmt 2: Rehearsal 4 and 7. Metronome! Keep it light and accurate with your left hand position.
  • Winds: Ode to Childhood Mvmt. 2, Rehearsal 4, and the measures before Rehearsal 6. Please look ahead to Mvmt 3, too.
  • Brass: Opening of Spanish Dance No. 3. Trombones: Ode to Childhood, Mvmt 2, Rehearsal 1 and Rehearsal 5. Trumpets: Ode to Childhood Mvmt 2 Rehearsal 1 and check your notes at Rehearsal 7.
  • Percussion: Espirit has the most percussion to work on, so please check that out and also peruse Lord of the Rings, too.
Important Dates to Remember:
  • 1/18 Winter Retreat at Roseville High School
  • Woodwind/Brass/Percussion Seating Auditions 1/29 (excerpts will be ready next week)
  • String Seating Auditions 2/5 (excerpts will be ready on 1/22)
Be safe, be kind, practice well, see you soon!
Best wishes,
Zane Kaiser
