GTCYS 10: Areas to Work on This Week in Practice

All Student Musicians: Please review each piece in it’s entirety this week and get a better overview of the foundations (rhythm counting, note identification, etc.)

Violin: Bright Lights 34 – 45 for steady rhythm, Montagues and Capulets: 19 – 48 needs lots of work on when your rhythms tie over the bar line. Subdivide and count!

Viola: Bright Lights 34 – 45 for steady rhythm, Montagues and Capulets 45 – 53 will need slow methodical work to get each note correct.

Cello: Bright Lights 34 – 45 for steady rhythm, Montagues and Capulets 45 – 53 will need slow methodical work to get each note correct.

Bass: Bright Lights 34 – 45 for steady rhythm, Montagues and Capulets 49 – 53 look over, Ballet: Beginning – Rehearsal 2: use a metronome to keep this steady!

Flute: Bright Lights pickups to 36 – 45 for rhythm clarity and intonation. Ballet 5th of Rehearsal 2: CONFIDENCE!

Clarinet: Bright Lights pickups to 36 – 45 for rhythm clarity and intonation, Ballet 5th of Rehearsal 2: CONFIDENCE!

Bassoon: Ballet 5th of Rehearsal 2: CONFIDENCE!

Trumpet: Bright Lights 45 – 47, 75 – End, Beginning of Montagues and Capulets, 35 – 39: think of this like an excerpt that needs to cut through all the sound. BIG!

Low Brass: Bright Lights 75 – End, Montagues and Capulets 45 – 53 needs to be big and bold. Work on playing this with strength throughout.

Percussion: Generally, focus on mapping out your parts in each piece and identify how to cover as many of the written-out parts as possible. Check out your parts near the middle and end of Bright Lights in particular.

Fall Retreat at Camp St. Croix

It’s our annual tradition of bonding, music-making, and having fun! Saturday, September 20th is our date for Camp St. Croix. Check your email for details!

Seating Auditions are on 10/9 for Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion. 10/23 for strings.

Excerpts will be given out at least two weeks in advance. If you will be absent during your seating audition date, we will have more details soon about how to make up for that time.

Well, that was a lot. Thank you for reading! If you read all the way through this as a student, email me back the title of the painting at the beginning of the email. First response back gets a prize. See you next week!

Best wishes,

Zane Kaiser
