Letter from Jack (2/9)

Dear Concert Orchestra,

CONGRATULATIONS to our string players for finishing up their seating auditions. I am proud of each and every one of you for the music you bring to our orchestra. Hopefully, this learning experience will serve you well in the future, regardless of the result! Every stand matters. Every person is important. Be on the lookout for a new seating chart from me soon- possibly before our next rehearsal.

Looking ahead,

We are two rehearsals away from our March Concert! At this Concert we will play:

  • Larsen: Overture for the End of a Century
  • Beethoven: Symphony 7 Movement II
  • Williams: Selections from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
    • II. Anakin’s Theme (Measure 34)
    • VI. Duel of the Fates *Measure (148)

Please focus on the middle of Larsen (2 measures before K to the downbeat of N, with a metronome clicking at QUARTER NOTE=128 BPM).

Please also focus on Anakin’s Theme and Duel of the Fates (Strings, Anakin’s theme is especially in need of some attention this week).

You are doing a fantastic job of preparing a difficult program this semester. I’m filled with gratitude each time we make music together. Keep up the great work!

Here is the schedule for next week at HOPKINS HIGH SCHOOL

6:45-7:30: Larsen, Overture to the End of a Century

7:30-8:00: Beethoven Symphony 7 Movement 2

8:15-8:45: Williams: Anakin’s Theme and Duel of the Fates.

Best,

Jack.
