Letter from Jack (2/16)
Dear Concert Orchestra,
Whew! We did a lot of hard work together last night. I want to reiterate a statement I made last night:
This music (Especially the Larsen) is very challenging. AND- you can do it! We’ve almost turned a corner with this repertoire and are ready to touch up MUSICAL elements for our performance next week. I’m very proud of the work you are all doing together to bring these pieces to life. Let’s keep the ball rolling and have a fantastic week of practice in preparation for our final rehearsal before the concert next week!
***STRINGS, please remember that we will change seats AFTER our March 1st concert. I will share a new seating chart with you in an email after our performance.***
Here are some thoughts for each piece to guide your preparation this week. First, Violin and viola players, please pay special attention to measures 195-206 of Duel of the Fates. You will need to subdivide triplets in your head in order to play this rhythm properly. And be ready to follow the bowings. Ask a teacher for help with this if needed.
Please see the “Worklist” here to help prepare for next week’s rehearsal.
Here is our schedule for next week! Please note that this schedule may become more flexible if we need to focus more on specific pieces.
Monday, February 23rd
6:45-7:25 (later as needed): Larsen: Overture for the End of a Century
7:25-8:00 (later as needed): Williams: Anakin’s Theme and Duel of the Fates
8:00-8:15: Break and Announcements
8:15-8:45: Beethoven: Allegretto from Symphony 7
Thanks, all. Let’s have a great last rehearsal before our concert!
With Gratitude,
Jack.
