Letter from Jack (11/3)

Dear Concert Orchestra,

Thank you for your continued, focused efforts in rehearsal. How far we have come in just a few short weeks together!

Next week is our final rehearsal before Fall Festival. We will begin with another installment of our rhythm game, have a play through of Still and Elgar, do some rehearsing of these works, and perhaps end with some Walton.

We will also take some time to listen to a performance of the famous “St. Crispin’s Day Speech” from Shakespeare’s Henry the V.

To prepare for this experience, please ponder the following question as you put the finishing touches on our pieces through your practice this week:

***What does Concert Orchestra need to do to give a compelling, moving performance at Fall Festival this year? ***

You can answer this question from many different angles. Some of you might focus on technical aspects. Or concert etiquette. Or Being on time. Or refraining from talking during rehearsal. Hopefully you also choose something musical to work on this week in your personal practice as well.

To aid you in this endeavor, I’m working on a Concert “Worklist” to send along before the end of the week. It’s going to be pretty thorough- please take a look through it!

Best wishes for a wonderful weekend. Making music with you is a gift that I cherish each week.

Best,

Jack.
