Letter from Jack (11/10)

Dear Concert Orchestra,

It’s time for us to perform. We’ve spent the better part of two months immersed in the rehearsal process, learning new ideas and refining old ones. It’s time for you to share your artistry with other people. I’m immensely proud of EACH and EVERY one of you for your efforts and bravery this semester. Bravo!

Please center yourself by doing a mix of long playthroughs and focused-detail oriented work this week. As you approach a performance, it’s good to immerse yourself in the basics: Rhythm, pulsetone, tuning… above all else, artistry and poeticism.

This will be an intense but gratifying weekend. I hope you can find a way to center your “inner poet” and keep the art at the forefront of your mind as we traverse through Saturday Together.

A small but important note: Please be on time this weekend! We will begin right away with a “singing” rehearsal at 8:00 am. And get a good night’s rest! On Friday night think:

“Tomorrow is St. Crispian’s Day”

For NEXT WEEK after Fall Festival:

Winds and Brass, we will have SECTIONALS on Walton, and maybe some Troika spots.

*****String Players: Please focus your practice efforts on Walton Movement 3 and 5 this week/weekend. We will DIG into these movements this week!*******

Here is the plan:

Winds/Brass/Perc:

ALL SECTIONALS 6:45-8:15 on WALTON movements 2,4, and 6.

8:15-8:45: Winds and Percussion return to the full group to rehearse movements 4 and perhaps 2

8:15-8:45: Brass Rehearses Walton Movement I, and then rejoins the full group for Movement IV and/or II

Strings/Harp

6:45-7:15:  Walton Movement 3

7:15-7:45ish: Rehearse Walton Movement 5

8:00-8:15: Continue to rehearse Walton Movement 5

8:15-8:45: ALL except brass rehearse Walton movement 4 (and maybe some of movement 2)
