Letter from Jack (1/26)
Hey Team,
Great work last night and this weekend. We’ve made some good progress on our music and I’m proud of you for staying focused during a busy, difficult time.
I know that you have a lot of music in your folders right now: we’re going to focus on music for our March concert moving forward. In addition to your work on the seating audition excerpts , please focus on the following pieces (we will perform these at our March Concert):
Beethoven
Symphony 7 Movement II
Larsen
Overture to the end of a Century
Williams
Suite from the Phantom Menace
Williams (arr. Brubaker): Suite from the Phantom Menace
II. “Anakin’s Theme” Measure 34-66
VI. “Duel of the Fates” Measure 148- the End
Although you have seating audition excerpts for Marquez, we won’t rehearse that piece again for a good while, so don’t focus on learning that work in its entirety. Let’s stay focused on Beethoven, Larsen, and the sections of Williams listed above.
We’re going to put Tchaikovsky to the side for right now. Perhaps we’ll return to it later this year.
For sectionals next week:
Please remember to be great listeners for your sectional coaches and SAY THANK YOU when the sectional time finishes.
STRINGS:
The unofficial seating audition excerpts were sent out a few weeks ago. You’ll get an official email from GTCYS soon- for now, see the excerpts linked here (they are the same as before).
Additionally: The deadline to register to be a GTCYS Ambassador is this Friday, January 30. If you are a member of your school band or orchestra program, you are eligible to participate. Questions? Email Dan Mollick at dan@gtcys.org.
I’m grateful for each of you and your commitment to community and art. See you next week!
