Letter from Diane (4/7)

Hey Camerata,

Check out this sweet quote from Farhad Poupel’s website!

Farhad Poupel

It will be a huge privilege for us to meet Mr. Poupel over Zoom next week, and it is super nice of him to stay up until 1:00am (London time) so he can work with us!  Be thinking about questions you would like to ask him and keep on practicing “Ode to Childhood!”  We have invited members of Camerata Vivace to join us, so I’m hoping they will be able to add even more insight to our discussion.

Great work with your sectional coaches today!  We had an absolutely fantastic group of teachers with us and your work with them was clearly demonstrated in our group rehearsal at the end of the night.  Well done.

That said, we have even more work to do on this piece to get it right.  This is a sophisticated and difficult piece, but one that is so worthy of our effort!  Let’s double down.

Here is your GTCYS 10

I have one word:  POUPEL!

  • Practice all movements of this piece.
  • Review the sections that your coaches focused on
  • Check your bowings! (Strings, I will send the bowings your coaches changed later this week)
  • If notes are giving you trouble, isolate them, write in fingerings and practice them slowly
  • Know your accidentals!  There are lots of them in this piece!
  • Practice your entrances! Yes, this means counting your rests and coming in strong.
  • Be picky with your intonation–especially in extreme ranges

Also, keep practicing your GTCYS audition material.  Remember, that you only need three minutes of music, so find a great piece and choose the three minutes that make you sound the best.  Still looking for a piece?  There are some great ideas on the  GTCYS Stand-out Solos list.  I will be at rehearsal 30 minutes early next week if you want to run any ideas by me or do a mock audition.

Okay.  Get practicing, and keep living your life Con Brio!
