Letter from Diane (4/14)
Hey Camerata,
What a great opportunity we had tonight to interact with Farhad Poupel and to welcome Camerata Vivace students to our rehearsal! Having two harps, two bassoons, and a seven-person brass section was amazing! I appreciated your great questions (even the ones about cats…) and thought Mr. Poupel’s responses were interesting and insightful. When he told us that he played the piano and the Persian Santur, I was curious about what the santur sounds like. Here is a video if you are curious too. I also liked his comments about how the best way to learn how to write well for different instruments is to listen to lots of different kinds of music written by lots of different composers. This is great advice for all of us as musicians!

Running all the way through Ode to Childhood was really helpful, but as you know, there are still lots of things to work on before it is performance ready and we didn’t take the time to fix very many things tonight (we will next week!). We have one more rehearsal, so our work is cut out for us! In contrast, your work on the Dvorak is really coming into focus. Great job getting the tempo changes! And Celebration… that one is just fun. It was good to run through everything on the April concert tonight.
