Letter from Diane (3/31)

Hello Camerata Con Brio,

Good work this week—especially considering how many people were away on Spring Break.  We worked on memorizing Jupiter for Spring Festival (don’t forget to do this in preparation for Spring Festival–and remember to memorize the bowings/articulations along with the notes and rhythms!)  Then we dove into the Dvorak, checking in with the many tempo changes in this piece.  Finally we worked on the Poupel. We have three more rehearsals to get this piece in shape, so please keep it in the front of your practice queue.

How is your preparation for spring auditions going?  You should be zoning in on your audition solo now.  Not sure what to play?  GTCYS has provided a list of solos to help you choose.  Before you click on the link, please understand the following two things:

  1. This list has suggested solos on it, but you do NOT need to play something on this list.
  2. The difficulty levels on this list are just a suggestion. Please choose a piece that you think represents the very best of your playing, regardless of where it is listed. The solo you choose does not bind you to the level that you are auditioning for.

Okay–here it is.  GTCYS Stand-out Solos list.

Next week we will have sectionals. Come ready to suggest places to work on with your sectional coach!

Here is your GTCYS 10 for this week:

Dvorak:

Strings, spend some time on m. 70-82

All–keep practicing with your metronome on.  As a reminder, here are our tempos

Measure 25: back to 80

Measure 29: faster!  mm=112

Measure 47: mm=116

Measure 82: mm=124

Measure 96: rit. As written

Measure 100: back to mm=124

Poupel

Please spend some focused practice time on the third movement.  This movement has a lot of soloistic and section playing that we will need to refine in our next rehearsals.

See you next week.  Until then, always live your life Con Brio!
