Letter from Diane (3/3)

Hello Camerata Con Brio,

Light In The Well

The picture above was created by an artist who was at a recent Light in The Well event. I love how it shows people dancing, making music and sharing joy. This artist will be at our concert on Sunday and will have a table set up where he will draw portraits of families before and after the concert. He is one of many special guests from Light In The Well who will be with us.  This concert is going to be truly something special and I can’t wait to share your work with our audience while creating a space where others can join us in making music together.

Here is the order of the concert:

  • Shorey – Grieving Dreams and Celebrating Life
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • I Got Rhythm
  • Celebration

There will be inclusive activities attached with each song–someone dancing in a wheelchair during the Shorey, people dancing with scarves during “Pirates”, tap dancing during “I Got Rhythm” and people drumming and clapping along during “Celebration.”  All of this is bound to be DISTRACTING, so please stay focused on your music so we can play our very best.

Here are a few things that Wu wanted me to share with you.  Sometimes people with disabilities will vocalize and make noise during a concert. This does not mean that they are not paying attention or bothered by the music, it simply means that they are expressing their excitement. She also wanted to let you know that the siren noise in the Shorey is sometimes upsetting to people and can make them scream or cry.  Please do not be worried if this happens; people will be taken care of and their response is a natural way of reacting to this emotional moment in the music.  Finally, we will invite people to come up to meet you after the concert.  They may have questions about your instrument or what it is like to play in an orchestra. If you are willing to show them your instrument or play for them, that would be fantastic, but please know that you do not need to let others handle your instrument. If this kind of interaction makes you uncomfortable, you are welcome to politely go back to our warm up room and put your instrument away, but I encourage you to mix with the crowd if you are willing.  We all have a lot to learn from one-another!

PLEASE GET YOUR GTCYS 10 IN BEFORE SUNDAY’S CONCERT

  • Play all the way through Shorey
  • Review Rhythm patterns on the Gershwin and practice your solo if you are playing one
  • Play all of the way through Pirates.  I would have liked to have spent more time on this piece, so if you review it on your own, we will be set up for a strong run-through on Sunday

Here are soloists for “I Got Rhythm:

First time:  Sofia–16 bars, Caius–16 bars

Second time: Rosa–16 bars, Daniel–16 bars

Third time: Hannah–32 bars

Fourth time: Nicholas–8 bars, Mythri–8 bars, Jonah–16 bars

Fifth time: Nella–32 bars

Please be on time for our 3:20 call time on Sunday at Irondale High School. There are lots of moving parts to this concert, so a solid dress rehearsal will be important. Remember that it is “Family Concert” attire, meaning bright colored long-sleeved shirt on top and black on bottom.

Finally, invite your friends and family to attend this concert!

Keep practicing, and always live your life Con Brio!
