Letter from Diane (2/3)

Hey Camerata Con Brio.

Good work tonight. We spent the first half of rehearsal on “Grieving Dreams and Celebrating Life.” As we add parts to this piece (typewriter, toy piano, celeste, siren, toys and rubber chickens!) I hope you are beginning to understand the intent of this piece.  The composer, Philip Shorey, explores the joys and challenges of raising a child who has a disability in a really unique way.  As we dive deeper into this piece I hope it will open your heart and imagination to approach this topic with curiosity, empathy and a desire for deeper understanding.

Next week we will have string auditions. String players, please come ready to play for your audition judges. See your selected excerpts below:

Here is your GTCYS 10

Winds, Brass, Harp and Percussion: Focus your rehearsal on the Shorey piece “Grieving Dreams and Celebrating life”  With remaining time, please practice “I Got Rhythm” and “Pirates”

Strings: Focus on the sections selected for your seating auditions.

For everyone: Take a minute to listen to this recording of “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang. It will bring you joy and also set you up for our orchestra version, which will be the finale of our concert.

Kool And The Gang

Have a great week, and always live your life Con Brio!
