Letter from Diane (12/16)

Dear Camerata Con Brio,

Congratulations on a wonderful concert Saturday!  Your musicianship and Con Brio energy was at its best and it was super rewarding to have a second chance to perform the Mozart and the Galante.  The thing that really struck me was how well you were listening to one another and how that allowed you to play with authority and confidence. You have grown in so many ways since our first rehearsal, and I am eager to see you keep stretching and developing as our season continues!

I hope that all of you enjoy our mid-year break and come back on January 6 ready to jump into a great second semester. We will start working on our special project with Light in the Well right away.  Here is some of the repertoire we will prepare for that concert.

  • Grieving Dreams and Celebrating Life–by Philip Shorey
  • I Got Rhythm–by George Gershwin
  • Either Pirates of the Caribbean or Music From Frozen (we will have you weigh in on which one is your favorite later!)
  • Movement 1 from Symphony 9–Dvorak

We will also start working on our commissioned piece, “Ode to Childhood” by Farhad Poupel

Please take some time to practice the Dvorak, Shorey and Poupel pieces between now and our next rehearsal. You can also start working on memorizing “Jupiter”–especially if you are planning on playing for the Orchestrating Opportunities event in February (which I highly recommend!) If you still need a part, you can find it on our member page by clicking on the “Jupiter” link.

Most importantly, I encourage you to find time to make music with people you love.  Play some holiday music together with your family, invite friends over to sightread duets together, serenade the relatives who are visiting from out of town with something that you love playing!  Find a way to share the amazing musical gift that each of you has!

I’m sending very best wishes to each of you and your families for a wonderful holiday.  See you in January!
