Letter from Diane (11/18)
Dear Camerata Con Brio,
First of all, Congratulations! Your performance at Orchestra Hall on Saturday was a wonderful celebration of the work that we have done together so far this season. You played with passion, beautiful musicianship and all of that “Con Brio” energy that I love so much about each of you. I couldn’t be more proud of your work and I can’t wait to see how you continue to stretch and grow as our year continues. Here is a link to our concert if you haven’t listened to it yet.
I really appreciated the opportunity to debrief at the beginning of our rehearsal tonight and to share shout outs, recognize the ways we have grown and set some goals for our future work together. Your insight always impresses me and we shared some great ideas. Some common themes were appreciation for soloists, feeling rewarded by spots that we worked hard on and a desire to keep refining our intonation, rhythmic precision and ability to listen and respond to one another. Let’s keep after these great goals!
We have three more rehearsals before our concert on December 13, so please focus your GTCYS 10 as follows:
Here is YOUR GTCYS 10
Bizet “Carrilon”–opening tempo is mm=132 Andante tempo is mm=115 (8th note pulse) Please practice so you are proficient at these tempos. Check out this recording, which models these tempos well. (and note the amazing dynamic contrast!)
The Most Wonderful Time of The Year– We will fix the part problems that we had tonight next week. Until then, please practice in a fast three (mm=150). We will feel this “in one” meaning that I will only conduct one beat per measure.
Poupel “Lullaby”–Good read of this. Please practice your individual part, slowing down to teach yourself good fingerings, technique and rhythm. The more you can figure out on your own, the better our group rehearsal on this piece will be.
Mozart–Please keep practicing this piece. I challenge you to SLOW things down, turn on your metronome and make sure you can play cleanly at a slow tempo, then gradually crank things up. Are your fingers even? Are you rushing or slowing down within the measure?
Keep on being amazing and sending your Con Brio energy out into the world! See you next week.
