Letter from Diane (10/21)
Hello Camerata Con Brio.
Well… that was unexpected!
The power outage at Wooddale definitely threw a wrench in our rehearsal plans this evening, but I truly appreciated the way you all calmly stepped up to help one another by sharing cell phones, stacking chairs in the dark and keeping one another company until your rides came to pick you up. You all are the best!
Strings, if you are the type that gets nervous about seating auditions, I’m guessing you felt a bit of relief that you didn’t have to play yours during rehearsal as planned. We are moving these online instead, so please see the email that was sent out on Tuesday night with the specific details about how to submit your audition using Snap Audition. Our audition judges need to get this done by the end of the week, so please respect the deadline and get these done by Wednesday so we make their job easier.
My big regret is that we had to forfeit our rehearsal tonight and now we only have three more rehearsals left until Fall Festival. Let’s double down on individual practice this week so we can make up for the lost time. I challenge you to make your GTCYS 10 a GTCYS 20 this week!
Here is what to work on:
Mozart, Mozart, Mozart!!
We need to get The Marriage of Figaro up to tempo, so work towards the goal of half note=120
Our roughest sections (and the places I had planned to really go after at rehearsal) are measures 59-139 and measures 172-236. Please work on those measures in detail.
Also work on dramatically contrasting dynamics. What do you need to do with your bow, air, hands, sticks or mallets to achieve that contrast?
Gallante
How is your tone and intonation when you practice this piece? Do you sound gorgeous? If not, work on centering your tone and pitch and achieving a warm, flowing sound.
Stay safe, stay well and always live your life Con Brio! See you next week.
