Letter from Diane (1/27)
Hello Camerata Con Brio.
Good work in your sectionals this week! After I finished wind and brass seating auditions, I was able to circulate around to sectional groups and learn from your amazing section leaders. Here are a few things I learned:
- Several bowings were changed in the Poupel and other pieces to support better phrasing and musicianship. Section leaders, I will ask you for these at our next rehearsal.
- The Poupel continues to challenge us. This was particularly evident in our woodwind, brass and percussion sectionals. Let’s buckle down on this piece–both in our individual and group practice.
- There are some tricky spots in “Pirates”. Although this is a super fun piece to play, accuracy in all areas is key. Be picky in your practice and identify the hard spots–then practice there first!
- Winds, Percussion and Basses worked on jazz/swing style in “I Got Rhythm.” I’m eager to put that back together next week.
Woodwinds and brass completed seating auditions this week. Strings, your seating auditions will be on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Your seating audition materials are listed in your GTCYS 10.
Here is your GTCYS 10:
Winds, Brass, Harp and Percussion: Focus your rehearsal on all three movements of the Poupel. In your sectional your coach helped to identify several intonation issues. Put your tuner on your stand as you practice and check in frequently!
Strings: Focus on the sections selected for your seating auditions.
One other thing: I’ve noticed that a lot of people have not brought their music stands to rehearsal over the past few weeks. If you forget by accident, we are always happy to share what we have, but so many people have needed stands recently that we have run out. Please remember to pack a stand when you leave for rehearsal–it is part of the required equipment for our group. We also need to ALL pitch in at the end of rehearsal to help put chairs away. Let’s make an effort to do better in both of these areas.
Have a great week and go out there and bring your Con Brio energy out into the world!
