Letter from Dan (11/3)
Dear Concertino West,
This week we worked on dynamics and leveling up our intonation. Nice job! We still need to keep improving our entrances. Here are two things that will really help:
- Anticipation: Be ready before you play! Have your bow on the string or your embouchure set so you can make an accurate entrance.
- Counting rests: A rest isn’t a break for your brain — it’s a silent note! Stay focused and count carefully, because silence is just as important as sound.
Practice Assignment (GTCYS10) for This Week
- Beethoven 5 (Fall Festival Piece)
- Identify three spots to improve and practice.
- Russian Sailor’s Dance (Fall Festival Piece)
- Identify three spots to improve and practice.
- Practice Rehearsal 14-end with a metronome set at Quarter = 160
- Sleigh Ride (new this week):
- Take a look at Rehearsal B-C. There are lots of accidentals!
- Waltz
- Keep working on the key change section: measures 69-89
- Johnny Comes Marching Home
- Winds: Practice 13-end with a tuner
- Strings: Practice 13-end with bow planning (how will you use bow speed change?)
Have a great week!
Dan
