Letter from Dan (11/24)
Dear Concertino West,
Thank you for a productive rehearsal last night! We played through Waltz I (Valse Bohemienne), worked on more contrast in Russian Sailor’s Dance, and focused on the counting/entrances in Sleigh Ride. We ended rehearsal with Chanukah Celebration.
It’s not too late to participate in the Student Directory Scavenger Hunt – right now, just 35% of the orchestra has completed this. Click on this link and you’ll be a VIP for the treat line on December 1! The deadline to complete the form is Sunday, November 30.
Choose one composer to learn about:
- Ludvig van Beethoven (Symphony No. 5)
- Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (Four Characteristic Waltzes)
- Leroy Anderson (Sleigh Ride)
- Reinhold Gliere (Russian Sailor’s Dance)
Practice assignment (GTCYS10) for this week
- Play through each of your concert pieces
- Find two spots in each that can be improved
- Mark and practice those spots
Here is the full program order for our December 13 concert at Wayzata High School (we’ll share this concert with Camerata Con Brio):
- Beethoven: Symphony 5, 3rdmovement
- When Johnny Comes Marching Home
- Coleridge Taylor: Characteristic Waltzes, Waltz 1
- Gliere: Russan Sailor’s Dance
- Chanukah Celebration

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Dan
