Letter from Dan (10/13)

Dear Concertino West,

Thank you again for your persistent work in sectionals this week! Also, congratulations to the woodwind and brass players for completing their seating auditions! Mr. Kyle really enjoyed hearing you play! I’ll have his feedback for you next week.

This week concluded our sectionals leading up to our Fall Festival performance at Orchestra Hall. I’d like you to take a moment and think about three takeaways from your sectionals so far and submit them here. Those that complete the form will be first in line for treats next week!

Orchestra Hall Performance

We are performing two pieces at Orchestra Hall on Sunday, November 16:

  • Beethoven Symphony No. 5
  • Russian Sailor’s Dance

Practice Assignment (GTCYS10) for This Week

  • Beethoven 5
    • Playthrough three times with the recording between now and next rehearsal.
    • Tip: Count carefully in the Trio section and no rushing!
  • Russian Sailor’s Dance
    • Play through three times with the recording between now and the next rehearsal.
    • Tip: Notice the tempo changes as we’ll be working on this next week!
  • Waltz:
    • Review the A section (measures 1-16)
  • Johnny Comes Marching Home:
    • Continue to review Rehearsal 13-end (Variation 4)

Seating Auditions for Strings: October 27

Refer to your paper handout or you can find a link at the top of our member page (password: concertinowest25-26). Remember, auditions are a chance to practice your skills. Your placement in the orchestra doesn’t reflect your value as a Concertino West musician. Here are the details:

Student Speakers Still Needed

Are you interested in public speaking? This season, we’re looking for orchestra members to introduce pieces at our concerts. I’ll give you a script with room to make it your own and you don’t need to memorize anything (unless you want to!). Use this form to sign up and I’ll be in touch as we get closer to a performance!

Have a great week!

Dan
