Harmony Riverview Week 9

Dear Harmony Riverview Families,

We had a great ninth week of Harmony! Here are a few highlights:

• We welcomed Ms. Irene back after a few weeks away (there’s a photo of her class on the Member Page)
• Roots students continued to work on their bow holds
• Ms. Emily’s class played some Holiday music (Jingle Bells)
• On Thursday we had class all together as one big orchestra!

Instruments going home over Winter Break

Next Thursday, December 18, Harmony Roots students can bring their instruments home for the first time! Here are some important things to keep in mind about caring for violins and cellos at home

• Just like people or pets, wooden instruments do not do well in hot or cold temperatures – make sure to store your instrument somewhere that doesn’t get too hot or cold, and never leave it in the car!
• Remember to bring your instrument to school for Harmony – if a student forgets their instrument at home two times, they will need to leave their instrument at school for a week. If it continues to happen after that week, students may lose the privilege of taking their instrument home for the rest of the year.
• If your instrument is damaged at home – please let me know right away! Please do not try to repair the instrument yourself, as that may cause further damage.
• Taking instruments home is optional – we encourage Harmony students to play music at home as much as possible, but it is not required. For many students, it makes sense to leave their instrument at school on Tuesday and Wednesday night and just bring it home on Thursday for the weekend.
• Make a habit of practicing – please encourage your student to play their instrument at home! Musicians should practice for at least a few minutes every day, if possible.

Looking ahead to February Concerts

Our February concerts will be here before we know it! Harmony Riverview has two concerts in February:

• Sunday, February 22  – Orchestrating Opportunities at Orchestra Hall
  • We will meet at Riverview at 2:40pm and take busses to Orchestra Hall together. Busses will return to Riverview around 7:15pm (you may pick up your student at Orchestra Hall after the performance if you would prefer)
  • You can reserve your tickets for Orchestrating Opportunities now! Ticket’s are pay-what-you-can, all are welcome!
• Saturday, February 28 – GTCYS Concert at Two Rivers High School on February 28
  • Harmony will arrive at 9:15 am
  • The concert starts at 10:30 am
  • The concert will be over around 12:00 pm
  • You do not need to reserve tickets ahead of time for the Two Rivers High School Performance!

I will send more details about both of these concerts after the winter break, but for now please make sure they are on your calendar! If you are not available for one or both of these performances, please fill out an Absence Form.

Hola, familias de Harmony Riverview:

¡Tuvimos una fantástica novena semana de Harmony! Aquí les presentamos algunos momentos destacados:

• Le dimos la bienvenida de nuevo a la Sra. Irene después de unas semanas de ausencia (hay una foto de su clase en la página de miembros).
• Los estudiantes de Roots continuaron trabajando en el agarre del arco.
• La clase de la Sra. Emily tocó música navideña (Jingle Bells).
• El jueves tuvimos clase todos juntos como una gran orquesta.

Instrumentos para llevar a casa durante las vacaciones de invierno

El próximo jueves, 18 de diciembre, los estudiantes de Harmony Roots podrán llevar sus instrumentos a casa por primera vez.

Aquí hay algunas cosas importantes que deben tener en cuenta sobre el cuidado de los violines y violonchelos en casa:

• Al igual que las personas o las mascotas, los instrumentos de madera no se llevan bien con las temperaturas extremas; asegúrense de guardar su instrumento en un lugar donde no haga demasiado calor ni demasiado frío, ¡y nunca lo dejen en el coche!
• Recuerden traer su instrumento a la escuela para las clases de Harmony; si un estudiante olvida su instrumento en casa dos veces, deberá dejarlo en la escuela durante una semana. Si esto continúa después de esa semana, los estudiantes podrían perder el privilegio de llevar su instrumento a casa durante el resto del año.
• Si su instrumento se daña, ¡por favor, avísenme de inmediato! No intenten reparar el instrumento ustedes mismos, ya que esto podría causar más daños.
• Llevar los instrumentos a casa es opcional; animamos a los estudiantes de Harmony a tocar música en casa tanto como sea posible, pero no es obligatorio. Para muchos estudiantes, lo más conveniente es dejar su instrumento en la escuela los martes y miércoles por la noche y solo llevarlo a casa el jueves para el fin de semana.
• Adquieran el hábito de practicar: ¡por favor, animen a su hijo/a a tocar su instrumento en casa! Los músicos deben practicar al menos unos minutos todos los días, si es posible.

Próximos conciertos de febrero

¡Nuestros conciertos de febrero llegarán antes de que nos demos cuenta! Harmony Riverview tiene dos conciertos en febrero:

• Domingo 22 de febrero – Orchestrating Opportunities en Orchestra Hall
  • Nos reuniremos en Riverview a las 14:40 y tomaremos autobuses juntos hacia Orchestra Hall. Los autobuses regresarán a Riverview alrededor de las 7:15 p. m. (si lo prefiere, puede recoger a su hijo/a en el Orchestra Hall después de la función).
  • ¡Ya puede reservar sus entradas para Orchestrating Opportunities! Las entradas son de precio flexible (pague lo que pueda), ¡todos son bienvenidos!
• Sábado, 28 de febrero – Concierto de GTCYS en la Escuela Secundaria Two Rivers el 28 de febrero
  • Harmony llegará a las 9:15 a. m., y el concierto comienza a las 10:30 a. m.
  • El concierto terminará alrededor de las 12:00 p. m.
  • ¡No es necesario reservar entradas con anticipación para la presentación en la Escuela Secundaria Two Rivers!
