Harmony LNFI Week 6

Dear Harmony L’Etoile du Nord Families,

Tomorrow will be the end of Week 6 of Harmony! I have a few brief updates and reminders for you this week:

Late Arrivals

This year, all Harmony staff are teaching, which means no one is available to come let your student into the building if they are late for class. If you do arrive late (after 8:00am) for Harmony, please do the following:

1. Ring the bell for Discovery Club
2. Walk with your student to the Harmony Room, 2107
3. Ms. Laurie will make sure your student gets to the right classroom from there.

Practicing at Home

As we get into the Harmony year, this seems like a good time to remind you that is is very important for students play their instruments at home!

Playing at home, or “practicing” an instrument at home, is the best way to improve and be able to learn even more. Regardless of musical background, a parent or guardian’s support and encouragement will impact a child’s progress. You’ll be amazed at your student’s progress if you follow these tips!

• Facilitate regular practice: provide a daily time and quiet place where your child can practice without
  distractions or interruption.
• Encourage musicians to practice slowly and then increase speed
• Practice with the YouTube videos, as well as with the music that students have been given in class
• Encourage small performances: In addition to Harmony performances, encourage your child to play for you, your family, and friends at home or family gatherings
• Get Involved! Enthusiastically attend Harmony events to show your support. You are welcome to attend a Harmony class to see what your child is learning and encourage those concepts at home.

• Absence form: If your student needs to miss a Harmony class for any reason, please fill out an Absence Form as soon as possible.

I will be out of town next week, so you won’t see a regular weekly email from me until the first week of December. Have a wonderful, warm Thanksgiving next week if you celebrate. I am so grateful for our wonderful Harmony students and families!
