GTCYS Students Bring Holiday Cheer to Care Homes
Earlier this week, Philharmonia West and Sinfonia West students gifted private concerts to residents of Friendship Village in Bloomington and the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis.
“I like giving back to the community by playing for people who probably can’t get out like they used to,” said one Sinfonia West cellist. “It makes them really happy, and it makes me happy seeing them!”
Sharing the joy of music with audiences who might not otherwise have access is a core part of GTCYS’ mission. Plus, private concerts give our students the chance to see the impact of their music on the audience up close.
“It’s nostalgic watching the kids play,” said one resident at the Minnesota Veterans Home. “It brings me right back to when my daughter was first learning violin.”
Keep the holiday magic going! Join us at one of our free public concerts this weekend, or get tickets for the Symphony Series Concert with Philharmonic on Monday, December 15.
