Leonidas Kavakos performs Mozart’s radiant Violin Concerto No. 3, a piece that mixes elegance with a dash of folk charm and lets the violin shine like a storyteller. Kavakos also leads the Orchestra in a performance of Shostakovich’s enigmatic Symphony No. 15, which gives a nod to the influence of Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.

David Afkham conducts two pieces that feel like personal statements: Saint-Saëns’ electrifying Piano Concerto No. 2 and Weill’s bold Second Symphony. Saint-Saëns treats the soloist as a dramatic protagonist, weaving a tale of introspection, wit and triumph, while Weill uses the orchestra to convey emotional and ideological depth in a piece written as he fled Nazi Germany. Both works will draw you into a vivid, unfolding narrative.
