Because our impact is greater when we work together, we collaborate with numerous organizations, schools, and artists in the community. The following are ongoing partners:
The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra
In July 2011, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO) and GTCYS entered a strategic partnership. Although both GTCYS and the SPCO maintain independent status, the partnership includes shared office space in the SPCO’s downtown Saint Paul headquarters, infrastructural resources (phones, copy machines, IT service), and professional consulting between key staff and Board leaders. The relationship has allowed GTCYS to focus more on its core programming as a result of administrative efficiencies and fundraising strategies. In addition, we have introduced new joint educational, programmatic, and audience development initiatives, including the annual free family concert at the Ordway Center, Chamber Music Institute, and contact between SPCO and GTCYS musicians at rehearsals. The partnership has strengthened both organizations, while creating new educational and performance opportunities for students and the community.
Riverview Westside School of Excellence
In 2016, GTCYS launched Harmony, an extra-curricular program in partnership with Riverview Westside School of Excellence on the West Side of St. Paul. Harmony provides third through fifth grade students at Riverview Westside School of Excellence with access to high quality Violin or Cello instruction and performance opportunities that complement their academic experience and boost personal development.
Walker | West Music Academy
We’re excited to launch a new scholarship opportunity with Walker | West Music Academy to continue to break down barriers to music instruction for all students. Scholarships for lessons and instruments are available for beginning or current young musicians of color in grades 3-11, for strings, woodwind, brass or percussion. This initiative will open access to music education opportunities so more BIPOC students can find, and stay, on the musical path. To learn more, contact email@example.com. Scholarship partnership announced February 2021.
