Chamber Music Ensembles Recruiting

We are excited to offer a new opportunity for Philharmonia West and Concertino West string students to play in string quartets (two violins, one viola, and one cello) under the guidance of a professional chamber music coach! Since this is a pilot program, enrollment is limited based on instrumentation. The cost to participate in the program is $150 and need-based assistance is available, with a refundable $20 registration fee due upon applying.

During this program, you and your quartet will:

  • Receive repertoire to practice on your own and with your ensemble.
  • Rehearse one-hour before your regularly scheduled GTCYS rehearsal at the rehearsal venue. You will meet weekly for six weeks (April 1-May 6)
  • Work with a coach during each session to help, guide, and motivate your quartet.
  • Participate in an informal performance for GTCYS families and friends before, during or after your regular GTCYS orchestra rehearsal.

Next steps if you are interested:

  • Please note that applications for the chamber music program were due on March 18. Complete this form if you have been asked to apply for the Chamber Music pilot program.
  • Check to make sure that you can attend all the dates that your ensemble will rehearse and learn together: April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and May 6.
  • Prepare and video record a playing sample no longer than two minutes. This could be a solo you are working on or an excerpt from your orchestra music. Upload this playing sample to YouTube and we recommend that you set the video as unlisted.
  • Students who qualify for this program will be assigned a string quartet based on your playing sample. If you would like to put a quartet together ahead of time, that’s great! Make sure all members of your group complete the application by the deadline, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
  • You will be notified of acceptance into the pilot program by Friday, March 22 and receive music to prepare on your own before your first rehearsal.
