50 Years of Alumni: Siting Zhang

College(s)/University attended:
Purdue University

What years were you in GTCYS?
2014-2019. High school class of 2019.

Why do you think GTCYS is important for students now?
GTCYS requires a lot of time and dedication, which I think teaches students how to work as a team, as well as time management with juggling school and other extracurriculars that they may be involved in.

How does music still play a part in your life?
I am actually still playing the violin as part of Purdue’s Symphony Orchestra.

What is your favorite composer or piece of music?
Grieg’s Piano Concerto is one of my all-time favorite pieces, and I was lucky enough to be able to play it when I was in Philharmonic.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?
Last summer, I went on a hiking trip and traveled to 6 different national parks across Utah, Arizona, and Nevada.

What do you hope to see from GTCYS in the next 50 years?
I would love to see some sort of alumni orchestra that performs maybe once a year. I would also hope to see some new concert locations (not Orchestra Hall) across the Twin Cities to experience different concert halls/environments.
